Dennis Davies' Scene Class

ORGANIC CREATIVE PROCESS

Actors focus imagination and willpower in order to transform one reality into another, which is the life of the character they specifically create in an imaginary world of a play. Professional actors practice this habit out of desire and necessity. The best actors surprise an audience, even themselves, when they do their best work.

In an Organic Creative Process actors use imagination and intuition deliberately and specifically. Developing a personal sense of truth is the most important tool an actor uses.

An intuitive, creative life-force is one of the foundations every creative artist shares because every artist uses imagination, desire and life-experience in their work when they do it well.

An actors process includes relaxation, concentration, focus and will. Artists think for themselves and take responsibility for their work and creative process. That is what this class is about.

Creating and living in an imaginary world is the work of the actor. Focusing your imagination and talent, your relationship to the play, your partner, yourself, and being real while creating a character on a personal level is the art and craft of actors. Developing your imagination, concentration, and personal creative process is what this scene class is about.

Regardless of form or structure, a few questions actors should almost always ask themselves are, "Is it real?" "Am I doing what I want?" "What am I focusing on?"

Actors who are serious about their work recognize that the art of acting is a craft that requires a focused, creative, personal process.

Frequently actors are not given or do not take the time to work with the best part of their talent because they are forced to learn a system or method rather than discover what works for themselves in order to become personally involved in their work.

Knowing how to rehearse, audition, or perform successfully- whether it is in theater or film - depends if you know how to be the best actor you are capable of being.

If you are committed to your art, your craft, yourself...then this is the class for you.
