NEW YORK ACTING CLASSES

New York acting classes are very limited. The classes take place at John Strasberg Studios. 555 8th Avenue, suite 810, between 37th and 38th Streets. Both the New York 8 week acting program and the Intensive Acting Workshops for Teachers, Directors, and Actors, fill up 3 months in advance. To reserve a space, it is best to plan well in advance, and notify us of your desire to participate as far in advance as possible. Even then, we cannot guarantee that you will have a space until the ongoing session ends, and actors currently working have committed to the next session or released their space. Sessions are organized well in advance to permit actors to make their plans. Because the session is less than 3 months long, you only need a tourist visa. You do not need to apply for a special visa. If you come from a country with an agreement for the Visa Waiver Program with the United States you need to apply to ESTA. Please read the rules concerning payments and refunds.

New York sessions takes place twice a year, in Spring and Fall. Prices have changed for the first time in several years, partially due to increased number of weeks of work.

Beginning 2024 The New York Acting Program for ongoing study will be for 9 WEEKS (INSTEAD OF THE CURRENT 8 WEEK SESSION).

The 10 day Teacher/Director/Actor Intensive Workshops continue during the same time period.

IN 2024 ONLINE INDIVIDUAL SESSIONS, ORGANIC SCRIPT ANALYSIS, AND INTENSIVE SCENE WORK WILL CONTINUE.

LIVE AND ONLINE CLASSES AND TDA INTENSIVE WORKSHOP DATES ARE POSTED BELOW.

SPRING 2024- 9 week session will be from Saturday April 20-Sunday June 16, Saturday and Sunday scene class 10am-2 or 3pm. Technique class meets Thursday 4-8 times from 5-9pm.

The Live 10 day TDA Intensive Workshop will be from Monday April 8-Friday April 19, 4-9pm.

FALL 2024 9 week session will be from Saturday October 26- Sunday December 22, Saturday and Sunday scene class 10-3. Technique class meets from 4-8 times Thursdays 5-9pm. The Live 10 day TDA Intensive Workshop will be from Monday October 14-Friday October 25, 4-9pm.

Organic Script Analysis is a 9 one hour sessions online class during this period.

The times and prices for the NY 9 week Full Time Acting Program are (the number of hours for each class depends on the number of participants). You work in each class:

• 3 scene classes plus both Technique and OSA, 145 hours, $5,250.00. NOT ACTIVE THIS SESSION.
• 2 scene classes plus Technique, up to 110 hours, $4,400.00.
• 1 scene class and Technique, up to 65 hours, $2,600.00.
• 1 scene class, up to 45 hours, $1,800.00.
• Saturday 10am-3pm, Organic Creative Process, all acting technique taught in scenework, limit 10 actors work every week, 9 weeks, up to 5 hours/class, 45 hours, 1-2 scenes, $1800, $200.00/class.
• Sunday 10am-3pm, Organic Creative Process, all acting technique taught in scenework, limit 10 actors, actors work every week, 9 weeks, up to 5 hours/class, 45 hours, $200.00/class, 1-2 scenes, $1800.00 for the session.
• Wednesday 5pm-10pm, Organic Creative Process, all acting technique taught in scenework, limit 10 actors, actors work every week, two scenes per session, 8 weeks, 5 hours/class, 40 hours, $187.50 per class, 2 scenes, $1500.00 for the session.

Technique meets on Thursday evenings 4-8 times during the 9 week session, 5pm-8 or 9pm, depending on the number of participants, $800.00. Technique-the Gym for the actor, Preparation, Sense Memory, Song and Dance, Character development, Private Moment, limit 10 actors.

Online Organic Script Analysis, 9 sessions of 1 hour, $300.00. The number of consecutive sessions depends on the schedule, minimum of 5 and maximum of 10. Learning to read and understand, real thought, what the play is really about, how to understand the structure, and learn how this knowledge helps you to become deeply, personally involved with the character and play, and how discovering the essential realities in the play's structure help's you to focus and make the choices that bring you alive, and involved in the world of the play, taught in an informal, interactive discussion.

New York Intensive Acting Workshops and Intensive Workshops for Teachers, Directors, and Actors Twice per year, Winter and early Summer will now be both Live and Online.

2024 The ONLINE TDA Intensive will be in January from Monday-Friday 5 days from 10am-2or 3pm New York time. In July, theOnline TDA Intensive Workshop for Teachers, Directors, and Actors, Monday-Friday 10am-3pm NY time (or when finished) 10 days. January 15-19, 2024. July 10 days Monday July 8-Friday July 19, 2024.

LIVE AND ONLINE TEACHER/DIRECTOR/ACTOR INTENSIVE EXPLANATION

Teachers, Writers, Directors and Actors, 10 days, Monday-Friday NY time, 4-5 hours per day, depending on the number of participants. Actors do  2 scenes, one per week. Teacher/Directors may also present a scene or discussion of a production, depending on experience and work with Mr. Strasberg. The creative process of any teacher, director or actor is based on their reading of a text, as that will determine what they choose to focus on, in order to create and express the life in the text. Organic Script Analysis is a deeply personal, functional analysis which develops the artists ability to read, understand and choose. Also, teachers and directors will develop a clear sense of what their teaching and/or director process is. Teacher/Directors audit the Intensive Workshop for Actors, and there will be an interactive discussion, with question and discussion of teaching/directing techniques with Mr. Strasberg. The price for LIVE AND/OR ONLINE price is $1,800.00. If a participants works as both Actor and Director/Professor the price is $2,700.00. contact John at Actors Intensive.

If someone participates in both the 9 week session and the Live TDA Intensive Workshop, the price will be reduced by 10% $5,600.00 instead of $6,225.00. Also, actors taking the 9 week session may take one or more days of the Intensive Workshop. The price will be $200.00 per day.

General Information for New York acting classes

Interview and Audit obligatory, $50, (except for foreign students, and those coming from out of New York).

Permanent auditing permitted and encouraged in all acting classes, 1/2 price.

Online Intensive Acting Workshops are held in January and July of each year. Spring and Fall 8 week Acting Program sessions most often begin in late March and late September-early October. The dates for future classes will be announced soon. The price is subject to change.
